An evening of celebrations takes place as FABRICA's eco-town, Elmsbrook at NW Bicester, wins the Best Low or Zero Carbon Initiative Award.

As the UK's first eco-town, Elmsbrook's zero-carbon homes and energy-efficient features will deliver a sustainable new community and will minimise the need for energy consumption through technology and features including home digital information systems, electrical car charging points, energy-efficient ventilation rainwater-harvesting and solar panels. Designed for sustainable living, the UK judges were hard-pressed not to award Elmsbrook in this category again.

Rosie Nesbitt, FABRICA's Group Sales & Marketing Director, said: "We are extremely proud, not only to be recognised for creating a place where sustainable living and design innovation is high in our priorities, but to have also achieved such an accolade for the second year running. With more and more demands on environmental issues, we are extremely pleased to have won this award in recognition of our forward-thinking approach to sustainable futures."

Elmsbrook in NW Bicester is the first phase of the UK's firsteco-town and provides 393 highly energy-efficient homes and a local centre, creating the UK’s first true zero carbon community across a masterplan of over 6000 homes. In addition to the sustainable features in every home, the development also benefits from a combined heat and power plant to supply heating and hot water to all homes as well as a live bus timetable and electric car club to encourage sustainable travel.

Elmsbrook is one of only a few housing developments in the UK to have zero-waste to landfill during construction, including excavation from roads and trenches. The amount of carbon used during construction has been reduced by 30% for each home compared to a traditional build.

Already frontrunner and winner of a number of eco- commendations and awards, Elmsbrook’s achievement in this category is a true testament to the Group’s dedication to greener futures and sustainable living.

The awards were held on 3 November 2016 at the InterContinental London – The O2. For more information on these awards, please visit the website.
